  Gayzing Bazar( market)

Gayzing Bazar is a town about 10 kms away from Pelling. It is one of the oldest markets openned approximately about 100 years ago. The establishment of this market is recorded to have been done under the initiative of the  monk body of Pemayangtyse monastery to fulfill the reqirement basic food commodities and puja materials and also to meet the need of villagers around the monastery. Those days before Gayzing Bazar existed ,  shopping markets were long distance away .Most villagers in the had to totally depend on door suppliers.( one period the door suppliers did popularly prevail in the villages). Villagers used to buy their necessities and pay by giving away the eggs, animal leather and other local products that had a market outside. Ever since Gayzing market was established and first few shops were opened sale of vegetables, dairy, livestock and other local product developed and gradually weekly market fare called Haat began where ones a week traders and haukers come to sell their goods and a form of bazaar sheer use to be paid to Pemayangtse Monastery by the traders of Gayzing Bazar. There used to be an office named Adda and a monastic office secretary named Adda Thungyig to maintain the official record and one of the Marwari traders used to operate private bank for the monastery. The hundred years old tradition of holding weekly market still retains in present days.On every Sunday people gather for their weekly shopping. to do shopping or sell their products in Gayzing Bazar and some percentage of the sheer still still remitted in the name of Pemayangtse Monastery. However the management of the market area in terms of its cleanliness, drainage, sewerage, street repairs and providing infrastructure is done by the Govt. under urban and housing department. Today the market is well equipped with shops of all kinds, multipurpose community hall, library, post office, banks, police stations, eating places, lodges, internet centers, taxi terminus and a football ground. There are worshipping places such as Manilhagang, shiva mandeer, church and masjid for the people of all faiths, .
