The foot path heading further west of Sangachoeling
monastery through the dense forest and ridge , roughly
about three hours one way walk from Pelling gets the
visitors to a site named Rani Dhunga where there is a
big rock as land mark of the site. Before one gets to
Rani Dhunga, one comes across a big tree with a
naturally appeared hole at its main stump. About it
there are diverse beliefs and stories. Every year on
the eve of Ramnawami, large number of pilgrims visit
the site.Though the local people have different belief
about Rani Dhunga and many visit it to worship. The site
bearing the stone used to be the boundary mark to
identify the demarcation of two big area Lama Khowa and
Rani Khowa. Once upon a time it was the boundary
pillar between two portions of forests. At present the
boundary, no longer exists yet the site sustains the
name Rani Dhunga, Whereas the Buddhist call this site
Thikchuyangtse and many budhist yogis lived here on
retreat. The wild men used to appear in this site and
some village men narrate story about this animal to have
lived in harmony with those yogis. Besides piligrimage ,
the site is suitable for a day jungle trek during the
season of wild orchids and flowers. Take a guide. |
